How do we support our adult learners?
Dealing with adult problem behaviors can quickly end up with a trip to the hospital for a family or staff member. Our vision is to decrease institutionalization of adults with IDD in El Paso.
De-escalation training
Collaborative approach
Training for de-escalation during behavior crisis is available for nurses, caregivers, respite workers and family members of our learners. Collaboration of implementation of the person-centered care behavior support plan helps increase the rate of success.
Self-advocacy coaching
Foundation for independence
Functional communication skills are taught to decrease problem behaviors and encourage self-advocacy. Adult learners explore self-regulation techniques and review how to get out of potentially harmful situations.
